Full time traveling means the world is your oyster. But also it can get overwhelming trying to choose where to go next. When my sister told me she was speaking at a conference in Salt Lake City with a comped room I started looking at flights.

We were just too late for Sundance Film Festival and I am not into skiing but there is still tons to do in March, including a spring snow storm.

To Stay

The Grand America Hotel is the best choice. Its gorgeous, old, and where the celebrities stay. We saw basketball players from some of the teams.

The Little American Hotel is across the street and is a nice hotel option too. Their breakfast is delicious.

To Eat

The scene in Salt Lake is surprisingly good and some of the areas have a hipster Brooklyn vibe. Very different than the Morman vibe you would think is there.

  • Takashi – delicious Japanese food
  • Beez Hives and Honey – local honey shop
  • Publik Coffee Roasters – cute coffee shop perfect for old coworker catch ups.
  • Three Pines Coffee – adorable tiny coffee shop on Main St
  • Eva’s Bakery – the place to get breakfast
  • White Horse Spirits & Kitchen – we ate there twice, delicious

To Explore

  • Randy’s Records – when I did my laundry down the street I spent the wash time in this store. The street area around the back is cool too.
  • Ensign Peak – the sunset views from here are stunning. The houses in this area are huge and we had fun driving through imaging which real housewives lived where.
  • Bonneville Salt Flats- a couple hours drive west past the mountains to these gorgeous views. The flats themselves feel endless and walking 5 minutes feels like 5 miles. Absolutely worth the road trip.
  • Utah Jazz – with Mormons not drinking, the number of soda vendors is high. We watched the two worst teams in the NBA play.
  • Temple Square – the largest and scariest looking building with some large quotes and globes
  • Cotopaxi – their headquarters is here!
  • Salt Lake Power Yoga – freezing from walking around I booked a hot yoga class here. The smoothies next door were delicious and I felt my toes with the snow following.

Park City

Bonus to take the one hour driver through the mountains over to Park City. This is where the real skiing happens. There are some great restaurants, fun shops, and great people watching. People go there there dressed in the stereotype outfit, oversized hat, boots, and a jacket with a furry collar.

Harvest – for endless options of coffee and tea

No Name Saloon – for the burgers

For most people Utah means skiing, for me it mean running across salt flats and actually gawking at the gorgeous mountains so close to the city. As a beach girlie, I was almost convinced.
